This is what Bill Noonan had to say in Herald Sun yesterday after decision re trucks in Footscray:
But Transport Workers Union Victorian branch secretary Bill Noonan attacked the decision.
“These people need to live in a world where they understand that trucks are a part of a service that is delivering goods and services to the community,” Mr Noonan said.
He said more trucks were likely to hit city roads, with the number of containers at Melbourne’s ports set to double over the next decade.
“There really needs to be a road built at the back of Dynon Rd into Old Geelong Rd somewhere near Flemington Racecourse: that’s what they should be advocating,” Mr Noonan said.
“It’s too easy to say we’ll just keep banning things.”
I have heard this idea before from a Labor local councillor in Sunshine – I wonder whether we will see this idea appear again when port plans are more finalised
