MOORE ST SLEEP IN TRUCK PROTEST

8.00-8.30am, Wednesday 2 April 2014
Join us for a lawful protest to symbolically reclaim the street and give the residents of Moore St the chance to get a bit of sleep… on Moore St!

Why are we doing this?

  • Moore St has seen a 400% increase in night time truck numbers since 2006
  • Every night 671 trucks rumble down Moore St (VicRoads)
  • Health impacts linked to long term sleep disturbance include: obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular, anxiety, depression and increased drug and alcohol use.On top of these risks is the diesel exhaust which is listed as carcinogenic by the World Health Organisation

MOORE ST NEEDS A CURFEW NOW!

We call on VicRoads to immediately implement a curfew to force trucks to use CityLink to access the port. Given the huge loads many of these trucks carry, the price per ton of freight delivered to and from the port to pay for CityLink tolls would be negligible. It could be easily absorbed by industry, and residents should NOT be SUBSIDISING Victoria’s freight task with their health and safety.

WATCH THE VIDEO WHICH DRAMATICALLY ILLUSTRATES THE PROBLEM.

Bring your sleeping bags, pillows, yoga mat or swag and an old blanket to put on the road. Bring your family, friends and neighbors.

All MTAG protests are lawful, family friendly and held in consultation with Vic Police .
