Ban Trucks During School Crossing Hours
Join us for a lawful, safe and family friendly protest – 8:00-8:30 AM Tuesday 12 Nov 2013
Meet on Somerville Rd, north side of Kingsville Primary School crossing, 8:00am sharp for a symbolic group road crossing.This will be a family friendly event, with Victoria Police handling all traffic management.
Kids from all schools welcome.
Bring yourself, bring the kids, bring a friend or neighbour and ride your bike or scooter. We’re reclaiming the street, when the traffic is stopped the road will be safe for kids and riding.
The health and safety of our children is at risk from truck traffic. Let’s show VicRoads how many people are worried about trucks and kids.

Although I support the group and it's cause, have you considered the impact that this will have on Francis street on the day of protest? Trucks will be banked up miles which will be awful for Wembley students and those living around the area. Any thought or action given about that?
We have and we regret any inconvenience. We believe there should be curfews for Francis St school crossing too but that is a VicRoads road. If we can achieve this measure on Somerville Rd then we can push for the same for Wembley. Also, if Wembley people would like to organise a similar protest then we would get right behind it. This one is driven by Kingsville PS parents but could certainly be repeated.
Actually even on the day of this protest if Wembley parents wanted to get some signs happening at that crossing it would be very effective. What do you think?
Thanks for your reply. Does it matter whether it's a vicroads roads or any other. I think it would have been far more effective to block both of the roads simultaneously so then the message really gets across and they have to find an alternative route. If your protest works and trucks are banned during school crossing times, the problem will just come over to us.
Can you organise people at your school for a protest? We will give it our full support. The thing with blocking two roads at once is that the Police will not let us do it and also media gets confused. More effective to do two protests, it just takes someone like you to get it started. Please let us know if you're willing to step up.
