i am just about to leave for Court. Standing in front of the magistrate, I will be asked why I drove a car through changing lights....or, more appropriately, why do I think I should be relinquished from fines and loss of points when I have been busted shuffling across the lights at Somerville Road/Geelong Road. The story I will tell will not be pretty . It would have been far easier to have just paid the fine and got on with it...but last October, nearly a year ago now, a truck appeared on my bumper that gave me more reason that usual top gripe about its impact. Trucks creating traffic problems, congestion, ill health..we have come to tolerate...trucks that harrass and endanger are a new breed of problem that numbers alone must dictate was bound to happen. They dont drive themselves, you know, and what was behind the wheel of this monster went very close to killing me. he began his flirtations on Footscray Road, and going in the same direction, continued antics that included horn blowing obscene gestures etc Ignoring him infuriated him more..I mean, they are not use to being ignored are they for we have cried real tears for years now overe them. Finally, his piece de resistance was in pushing me over the line...and I mean this in thjemost terribly dangerous way. If you have ever wondered what its like to have 50 plus tonnes of crashing metal coming down on you,let me tell you....it's a nightmare. Did he get in trouble for his life threatening antics ? he was given a warning call by police after a good samaritan took his number. As for me, left shaken up on a footpath, fopr being frightened to pieces, losing a days work as a result and still shaky at any vehicle coming close...well, my "punishment" was a $300 fine and loss of points. They say I was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and cracked the attention of an exhausted nutter. Sorry, I don't accept it. As time marches on, the effects of the truck abuse gets worse until some of us might say, mainly me, its not safe out there . Wish me luck...? I just want to be listened too. I want this, and every , magistrate to know the community is suffering from the over kill in far more ways than is known
