Excellent news with the State Government announcement that the 29 hectare old Melbourne Market site on Footscray Road will be used as empty container storage, reducing the need for empty containers to travel back and forth through the inner west. The site will also include facilities for truckies to take a rest break and refuel – including new alternative fuelling options.
The site won’t become available until the West Gate Tunnel is complete, and the clean up of the site will take at least 18 months. So it’s a few years away. But a fantastic step forward and something we’ve been calling for.
Thanks to Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne MP for her continued advocacy on this.
MTAG were interviewed about this on ABC Melbourne Radio, 3AW and the Star Weekly.
